Please note! For summer week courses, registrations close at 12:00 on the Monday before the start of the course (one week before the start). It is then decided whether the course has enough participants to go ahead. So, make sure to register on time!
Curious about how a sculpture is created – from clay sketch to finished plaster model? In this intensive summer course, you will dive into the world of sculpting techniques. You will work with clay, plaster and soapstone and learn how to turn a spatial form into a cast, and vice versa.
What will you be doing?
We will sculpt models: you will make studies of a head, hand or body in clay. You will learn to look closely and become familiar with anatomy, proportion and expression. You then discover how to convert those shapes into plaster – and this involves both positive and negative moulding techniques.
You will learn to make different types of moulds, experiment with casting shapes and gain insight into how sculptures are reproduced. You will also work with soapstone, in which you work more intuitively. Each day you will work with a different material and technique. The approach is investigative, playful and with plenty of room for your own input. Ideal for makers who want to broaden their visual language and like to think with their hands.
