Lyrical jazz dance is a combination of jazz dance, modern and ballet where the choreographer uses the lyrics of the music for inspiration. It is also a style where the dancer’s movements portray the emotion and story of the song. Many different types of music are used (see below for a few examples).
What will we be doing?
Class starts with a warm-up, stretching and technique exercises. Then we will work on learning a choreography, which will be performed during the final presentations at the CREA theatre.
The choreographies consist of both big, flowing movements and tight accents. The variety ensures that dance and music reinforce each other. Important aspects during class include musicality, balance, dynamics, isolation, coordination, and use of space.
“Super fun – very well prepared lessons and super impressive how Celine does it and gets everyone involved. I honestly had goosebumps when I saw the end result!”
