Sandra is an Amsterdam-based dance artist supported by Fonds Podiumkunsten (within Nieuwe Makers Regeling). As a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College (NY) with MFA in Dance Sandra focuses on merging strong physical work with philosophical intention(s). Before participating in Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company’s International Dance Program in Israel she received her BA in Choreography at University of Performing Arts in Slovakia. Sandra’s work has been presented at Frascati, CC Amstel, Dansmakers, Cinedans, Theater Kikker, Maaspodium, Pleintheater, Evertshuis, Schuur and Theater De Generator in The Netherlands and at BAM Fisher, Danspace Project, The Secret Theater and The Tank in NYC. Her multimedia dance solo Body as a Weapon was listed among 5 best performances of 2020 by Het Parool. MAJKA, her latest dance work is touring in the theaters in The Netherlands, Slovakia and New York.
In her teaching practice, Sandra looks for uncodified forms of movement informed by principles of flow, risk taking, contact, impulse driven functional movement and musicality. She is curious about ways to surprise oneself, about being adaptable and responsive to each creative decision. Sandra is passionate about sharing her creative ideas in an environment that challenges conventions and rather than providing answers, constantly poses questions.
