Álvaro Congosto Martinez

Bio:

Álvaro Congosto is a Narrative & Documentary Filmmaker born in Spain. He holds an MFA in Film Production from Boston University, where he studied with a Fulbright Scholarship. He has taught Film Production courses in Wheaton College and Boston University between 2013-21 and currently teaches at CREA.

 

Álvaro Congosto’s work as a filmmaker touches on a very wide variety of genres, including fiction, documentary and dance films among others. In all cases, Álvaro’s signature focuses on psychological development establishing a strong emotional bonding between the audience and the character through a magical and poetic tone.

In 2016, Álvaro received the filmmakers from Spain award by EGEDA for his film The Suitor, which screened at 85 international film festivals, including Montreal World Film Festival, Fort Lauderdale Film Festival or USA Film Festival, and received 15 awards (Best Film at New Jersey International Film Festival, Best Director at Queens World Film Festival amont them).

In 2018, he released, LADIA, a dance film co-created with choreographer Sandra Kramerova, which has also screened in half hundred festivals, including top dance festivals such as San Francisco Dance Film Festival or Amsterdam Cinedans.

The Dying of The Light, co-directed with Ivan Peric, is Álvaro’s first feature documentary. Currently he is finishing his second feature documentary, Nel labirinto (Inside the Labyrinth), co-directed with Alessandro Ingaria.

In 2023, Alvaro will shoot his first narrative fiction film, a Spain-US Co-production based on A Taste of Chlorine, an internationally awarded graphic novel.
