What do Pride and Community mean to you? And how can you express and give shape to that physically? In this one-day course, learn to connect with each other and with yourself by exploring what Pride means to you through dance and movement.
What will we be doing?
This one-day workshop is for anyone who wants to explore what pride means to them through dance, movement, music, and other creative means. Using various dance principles from both community and club styles (e.g. w*acking/punking elements) as well as physical theatre, we will work towards a short performance. We will learn a short piece of choreography and create dance material together through exercises such as negative space; you’ll work in pairs or small groups, taking turns to explore the space around another person and the possibilities and limitations that come with it. We’ll also incorporate costumes, music, and set design. Your level of dance experience or prior knowledge doesn’t matter; your enthusiasm and interest in the theme are all that’s needed. The exercises will be approached organically and holistically, so that everyone can participate based on their own experiences.
