Would you like to write your own song or instrumental piece? Or are you curious about the secrets behind composers like The Beatles, Miles Davis or Beethoven? Composing is fun – and it’s something anyone can learn. In this course, you’ll discover the essential ingredients of composition and how to build a complete piece of music, either on paper or using music software.
What will you be doing?
Over the course of ten weeks, you’ll work on focused composition assignments that give you insight into the creative process of writing music. You will learn:
– How to develop a strong melody
– How to structure a piece effectively
– How to enhance the expressive power of your music
– Tips and techniques on chords, rhythm, instrumentation and styles
– How to use music analysis as a tool for inspiration
You’ll compose your own music – either on paper or digitally – and receive guidance in shaping your ideas. Where possible, we aim to bring your compositions to life, either in collaboration with the Crea orchestra and ensembles, or with the use of music software.
