Learn the art of interviewing – a practical course for curious makers.
Are you curious about how to have a good conversation in front of the camera, microphone or on paper or just want to learn to listen and ask questions better? This beginner’s course will introduce you to the fundamentals of interviewing. We explore different interview styles – from intuitive and personal to critical and confrontational – and discover which approach best suits your own voice and personality.
What will you learn?
You learn what makes a strong interview, which techniques you can use to get to the heart of the matter, and how to really connect with your interviewer. The course is inspired by documentary and television practice, but is also very suitable for (beginning) podcast makers, writers and radio producers.
For whom?
For anyone who is curious about the other, and wants to learn the craft of interviewing from the ground up – whether you dream of making a podcast, documentary, article or anything in between – you are most welcome!
What will we be doing?
We will practice a variety of interview formats: from street interviews to in-depth interviews. You will interview fellow students, record it, and together we will analyse the recordings in class. You will be given assignments to prepare well for each session.
Once you have gained some more experience, you will spar with an actor – a fun and instructive exercise to try out different situations. As a finale, you work towards a final assignment in which you show what you have learned.
