Drag is play! Playing with transformation; shape-shifting in appearance, physical form, and gender- even beyond the human realm. A transformation that can be used to make an artistic statement, challenge conventions, or bring a character to life. Drag is queer, liberating, empowering, and increasingly in the spotlight. Drag performers use various art forms and creative skills. From creating looks with makeup to costume design and styling, to various forms of performance (dance, spoken word, lip sync, and stand-up comedy).
Let’s do drag!
We will transform ourselves through play, experimenting with makeup, costumes, and movement. We will create an alter ego complete with a name and attitude. We will work with camp, DIY design methods, and recycled materials. We will move and play with embodying a new personality. We will challenge each other to create larger-than-life characters.
