Please note: in block 2 this course is taught in Dutch.
In this week-long course, you will learn to make a short documentary. How do you translate a subject or an idea into a documentary in sound and vision? You will learn basic camera techniques and film language, types and functions of sound and recording, and (basic) editing techniques to build your story.
What will you be doing?
From Monday to Friday, you will conceptualize, film and edit a short documentary film in small groups. We focus on capturing a situation or person that appeals to you and makes you want to tell something about, in your own cinematic language. How do you build a film and what ingredients are needed? Do you use single shot or static camera? How do you capture dialogue so it can tell its own story? How do you decide your subject and make sure there is development in your story? And as a filmmaker, how do you choose your own form and style? We look at various excerpts from documentary history for inspiration.
