Whether you’re just starting out with drawing or have already clocked up plenty of sketching hours, this 10-week course is for anyone who wants to develop further in their drawing and/or illustrating. Over the course of ten weeks, you’ll work on your technical skills and create illustrations that reflect real-world commissions.
What will we be doing?
Each lesson begins with targeted drawing exercises to further develop your skills. Among other things, you’ll learn to draw people and objects realistically, apply composition consciously, use colour effectively and refine your line work.
You’ll then put these techniques into practice straight away through a variety of illustration assignments. For example, you might work on:
- an editorial illustration based on a text;
- designing a character;
- creating spot illustrations;
- illustrating a book or magazine cover.
During the course, you’ll be introduced to various forms of illustration, ranging from editorial to commercial work. Each assignment presents its own challenge, such as working with a limited colour palette, a specific format or a clearly defined target audience. In this way, you’ll not only develop your technique but also learn to think creatively within the constraints of a real-world illustration commission.
Do you prefer to work digitally? Then bring your own iPad or laptop. Do you prefer to work traditionally? That’s fine too; basic materials are provided at CREA.
