Please note! For summer week courses, registrations close at 12:00 on the Monday before the start of the course (one week before the start). It is then decided whether the course has enough participants to go ahead. So, make sure to register on time!
CREA X Blazinbell presents: Funky Fashion Repair Art.In this course, you will learn the basics of sewing and make a work of art with your sewing machine using recycled fabrics – old clothes that you no longer wear or fabrics that are lying around gathering dust. We paint with needle and thread, make the funkiest stitches, embroider and give your old clothes a new purpose. In this way, a patch is created that you can stitch onto a garment or bag of your choice in the last lesson. Totally hip and sustainable! Be repaired!
What will we be doing?
This week, we will work towards making a patch from recycled fabrics, or any other project you would like to learn about yourself. We are open to customising clothes, patchwork making, Boro embroidery and even textile art.
So it’s up to you what exactly you want to learn!
The patch can consist of your old jeans, or even fabric from that scarf you never wear. Each day we will build up the patch: we will go from picking out an image to tracing, to stitching and finishing with cool embroidery (or whatever you can think of!). You will work on this patch individually. You will learn to intuitively put together fabrics and colours, sew creatively and embroider in different ways. Your patch will truly become a unique ‘piece of art’. These days will also make you look at your old clothes differently and use them in other ways to upcycle your wardrobe. You will leave the course with a funky patch and thus countless sustainable ideas for new sewing projects!
What will you need?
This course is entirely sustainable, so we want to use as few new fabrics for your patch as possible. So, dig deep into your closet and stock up on some nice fabrics. You will also need your own sewing machine. Or your grandmother’s or your brother’s. During the course, we will help you start your machine if you have never sewn with it before. That is no problem at all! In this course there is plenty of time to get used to your own machine. Other things you will need are fabric scissors, pins, threads and some needles. And any other haberdashery you can find at home.
