Would you also like to dance to the music of artists like Elvis Presley, Bill Haley, Louis Prima and LaVern Baker?
During this day course, we, two teachers from rock ‘n’ roll club Gel, will teach you the basics of rock ‘n’ roll dancing. Whether you have never danced before, or are familiar with swing dancing, but would like to discover this dance style of the 1950s. For how do you move to such music, how does leading and following work? What makes the style and is central to it?
We teach you basic movements and handy techniques, and throughout the course we tell you about the history of rock ‘n roll, the scene in the Netherlands and abroad. In short: we immerse you for a day in 50s rock ‘n’ roll dancing.
What will we be doing?
We start by focusing on the basic elements of the style: the basic step, arm tension and dancing low to the ground. Then we will teach you some figures that you can immediately use to improvise and bring variation to your dancing.
We also introduce the technique of leading and following: how do you indicate what you want to do? How do you interact in terms of body language? In doing so, we prefer to rotate dance partners often, because you will learn a lot from this.
