This special course deals with simple printing techniques such as etching (techniques that can also crossover into digital media). The boundary between graphic design and autonomous graphics is an exciting subject. Can you call a poster or packaging art? Since the 20th century, many artists have been dealing with this fascinating border area, think for example of the Pop Art movement.
What will you be doing?
You will be given focused assignments to link old printing techniques with contemporary imaging possibilities. Your own handmade source material is the starting point for a design adventure in which text and function are linked to the charms of self-printed imagery. Thus, in this course you will create your own line of designs that take shape in, for example, posters, packaging and other applied expressions. Classic visual elements are discussed and applied to make your work even more expressive.
