CREA photo expo

theme: change

Every season, at the end of the course block, we organise a photo exhibition as a finale to our photography courses.
The theme our photography teachers have decided on this season is: change

Jury selection

From all the submissions a jury choose 10 works to be exhibited in the CREA hall for an entire course block. From this selection, a jury and public favourite will also be chosen, which will be exhibited for longer in large format. The photographers of the favourite works will also receive a €25 photography gift card!

Voting

-Voting has ended-

There are two ways in which you can cast your vote for the public favourite:

Jury favourite

The Death of Venus by James Hong

James was a course participant in the Darkroom course by Rogier Alleblas.

Jury report

We saw a lot of great photos, representing change in one way or another. Every picture is a change itself, has a story and a reason. In some photos we had to guess or imagine the change, in some others it was obvious and dynamic.

About the jury favourite:
At first, we recognized it as a beautiful photograph, though the connection to the theme wasn’t immediately clear. After a more detailed look we began to notice elements that revealed the meaning behind it. The octopus likely represents adaptation; from a more metaphorical perspective, it can also symbolize deep emotions and personal complexities. We observed the details on the model portraying these aspects. Ultimately, the strength of the message and the emotions it evoked led us to our decision.

Audience favourite

Protest/Feminist by Patricia Gutierrez

Patricia was a course participant in the Define your Vision course by Marzia Cosenza.

Jury

Our jury made a selection of 10 pictures from all the submissions from this course block, from which they themselves chose a jury favourite and from which the audience may choose an public favourite.

We hereby introduce our panel:

Hugo Rompa

photographer / former CREA photography teacher

Hugo Rompa initially envisioned himself pursuing a career in music; thus he studied the classical guitar at the conservatory of Amsterdam, performed in concerts for a number of years (including with his own guitar-duo), but has decided to trade in his guitar for a camera. From that moment on, he was a photographer.

Hugo started off as an aerial photographer, and now enjoys a broad range of disciplines: the portrait, interiors, documentaries, and reproduction of art. He taught at the Rietveld Academie and at the Hogeschool Utrecht. Hugo is working on a variety of projects, in part as commissions and in part as a freelancer.

George Kourouvakalis

photographer

George is a photographer working in events, fashion, and product photography. But you might also recognize him from being in the management team of the CREA café!
For him, photography is about capturing moments that feel real, whether it’s the energy of an event, the story in a fashion shoot, the personality in a portrait, or the character of a product. He focusses on the small details that often get overlooked and aim to create images that feel natural and have reason and purpose.
