Amsterdam on stage

Step into the infinite world of theatre in all its forms! This course is an introduction to theatre and introduces you to the various basic principles of theatre, such as imagination, character building, emotions and teamwork. We do this every day based on the central theme of this workshop: 'Amsterdam on stage'. One day you will be working with improvisation scenes based on 19th century cityscapes and the next day you will be introduced to movement theatre linked to the beautiful and dynamic photos by Ed van der Elsken. You will also learn to tell stories: your own story about Amsterdam perhaps? Do you already know the city or not at all?  Furthermore, we meet on the floor as characters from Heijermans' plays and create text theatre based on poems about "Amsterdam City of Light". This theatre course is therefore both monodisciplinary and interdisciplinary.
 
We become actors with the city as our backdrop, our muse and as an infinite source of inspiration!
 
This course is a journey of discovery through different forms of theatre. Every day we work around a certain aspect, such as improvisational theatre, use of text, movement, space and character building. We always start the class with a physical warm-up, with exercises for your voice, your body and the use of space. Then you work together with the group, in smaller groups or in pairs. Teacher Maruja Bobo Remijn has a lot of experience in giving basic theatre courses. In her lessons she creates an open and safe atmosphere, so that students are introduced to all facets of theatre and theatre-making in a pleasant way.
