Many famous photographers typified cities, places or the people belonging to them. Think, for instance, of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ed van der Elsken, Alex Webb, William Eggleston and Michael Wolf. But what is typically Amsterdam, and what is characteristic of the different districts of the city?
The Typically Amsterdam course is a photographic quest for the typologies of the capital, in which you will search for the true nature of the district in question at various locations in Amsterdam. Afterwards, the photos taken are discussed and analysed together. What makes a photo work well? How could you improve yourself?
You are challenged to keep pushing the bar a little further and thus get closer to the photos you prefer to take. At the end of the week, we will put together the puzzle: an eclectic portrait of the city captured in a mix of styles and genres.
