Please note: this is an online course!
Everyone knows how to write, but does everyone have an audience? How do you write to communicate with the world at large instead of only writing for yourself? How does a beginning writer take his or her written thoughts to the next step, which is to mold them into a narrative?
What will you be doing?
The focus of this class will be to create and develop a personal story with the assumption that each participant already has their own, distinct voice and wants to get that voice out. This is not a step-by-step approach to writing, but more, how to make you the best writer you can possibly be, using your own style, for the story you want to tell.
You will get assignments that take you step by step through the writing process. You will not only get responses from the teacher, but from the class as well, a group of readers as well as writers. Writing will take place during the course hours, but, of course, you can work in solitude in the evenings as well.
How does an online course work?
The first 30 minutes we will do a warm-up and then read the warm-up. Next, we will go over questions or concerns. Lastly, we will spend the next 45 minutes on an exercise (everyone stays online, but shuts off their camera and microphone ? the teacher stays available if you have questions). The remaining 30 minutes we read the exercise, discuss how it went, and wrap-up.
