Poems don’t always have to start off the cuff; art can also emerge from existing works. Blackout Poetry is a good example of this: a form of poetry where you use a marker to cross out existing text and tell your own story with the parts that remain.
What will we be doing?
We work with existing texts from books, letters or reports. In these, we look for words or phrases that fit together, have the same theme or that fascinate you. We black out the text around it. This allows you to direct how you read or for your poem to become an image on paper. We will try out different shapes and themes so that by the end of the day you will have several marker poems.
