This course is a follow up to the Documentary I course. The course is focussed on developing and making your own short filmproject. It is brings together people with an interest in film with basic knowledge of camera and editing to exchange each others ideas and get inspired by each others work.
What are you doing?
The focus in this course is on the development of your own film language and style for a short documentary or media installation. Besides various exercises, you develop and realize a short documentary during the course. How do you translate a story in your own way of storytelling, using visuals and audio? Which genre and style do you choose? How do you choose a subject ? Which role do you take as a filmmaker, what is important for the research, what angle do you choose, how do you build up a good interview and storyline?
During the course we look at different ways of storytelling. This includes also e.g. the use of found footage. You will also continue working on the techniques of filmmaking: (historical and journalistic) interview techniques, camera techniques, lighting, sound, editing.
As an inspiration, we regularly view fragments from different genres and styles within the documentary and (experimental) film. We work in small groups or individually.
