This course is a follow up to the Documentary I course. The course is focussed on developing and making your own short filmproject. It is brings together people with an interest in film with basic knowledge of camera and editing to exchange each others ideas and get inspired by each others work.
What will you be doing?
During the course we look at different ways of storytelling. The focus in this course is on the development of your own film language and style for a short documentary or media installation. This includes also e.g. the use of found footage, manual exposure, singleshot and static camera, capturing a scene from real life in your film language in audio and image, working with rhythm and duration in editing.
Besides various exercises, you develop and realize a short documentary during the course. How do you translate a story in your own way of storytelling, using visuals and audio? How do you choose a subject ? Which role do you take as a filmmaker, what is important for the research, what angle do you choose, how do you evoke something and create a storyline?
Documentary II has the format of a filmatelier and is focussed on the exchange of the participants. As an inspiration, we regularly view fragments from different genres and styles within the documentary and (experimental) film. We work in small groups or individually.
