A film course in which elements from both documentary and fiction film are discussed. How do you translate a beautiful subject or your own story into image and sound, into a common film language of fiction and documentary?
What will you do?
Visual storytelling comes first in the course. You will learn the (basic) camera techniques and film language, types and functions of sound, editing techniques and function of editing. The technique is always at the service of the story. In various exercises we will always make a translation of an interview, a memory or a situation from reality into making a scene in film, writing a dialogue, developing a scenario.
What ingredients are needed to build suspense, how do you build development in a film? How do you choose a good subject and angle? How do you make a parallel montage between a recorded interview and your own images so that they reinforce each other?
The course always exists on the border of fiction and documentary, to work towards your own final film. The assignments focus on the exchange between participants and we will look at different film fragments for inspiration.
