Lindyhop is a partner dance which originated with the rise of swing jazz in the United States in the 20’s and 30’s. People danced on music by well-known artists such as Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington.
Lindyhop is a very sociable dance: dancing together lies at its core and techniques of both leading and following, allowing you to dance with everyone! Lindyhop has a happy and jovial feel, as there is also room to improvise and show off one’s musicality.
What will you be doing?
This course will begin by teaching you the basic steps, and attention will be paid to the technicalities of leading and following. Sometimes dance partners may be switched. The classes are structured in such a way that you are quickly on your way to dancing fluidly on the dance floor! The last classes will be used to learn the shim sham, which is a dance routine that will serve you well on the dance floor.
You will need to sign up with a dance partner, one as leader, one as a follower. Each of you is required to pay separately. In addition to signing up, please fill in this questionnaire. In it you may specify who your partner is and who shall be leading/following.
