Vika’s classes
During our ceramics course, we will create a variety of functional pieces by working with different types of clay, including red, white and black. We will glaze our ceramics with a range of glazes, both transparent and opaque, with glossy and matt finishes, and with different colours. All your creations will be fired in the ceramic kiln, making them durable and usable.
This course draws inspiration from the rich history of art, especially from works found in the Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk Museum. Examples include Yixing terracotta teapots, Loosdrecht porcelain, Royal Delft paintings and the avant-garde art collection. These masterpieces will serve as inspiration throughout the course and will enhance your understanding of ceramic art and its historical significance.
At the end of the course, you will have a collection of beautiful ceramics made by you, ready to be used in your kitchen at home.
Det’s classes
Would you like to eat breakfast from self-made plates, or eat ice cream from a coupe designed by you? Traditionally people make plates, bowls and tiles and other such tools from clay.
During this course we will be following tradition, and making a number of personal, contemporary implements, because it is both fun and special to use utensils that you have made yourself, or to have a tile picture done by your own hand hanging on the wall.
You will be starting with packed up wet clay and end up with a glazed and fired piece of work. We will also be building up by hand and through use of moulds. You will be taught several glazing techniques.
