Special project CREAxRosewood Amsterdam: The Wall of Justice and Peace
Please note: This course takes place in one week, from Monday to Friday!
In this project with the Rosewood Hotel Group, you get the chance to collaborate on a large mural in their new hotel in the old Palace of Justice in Amsterdam! Under the guidance of Rienke Enghardt (CREA teacher, muralist and specialist in community art), you will work together with others in one week from an ‘open canvas’ to a powerful collaborative work of art in terms of content.
What will you be doing?
Because of the monumental location, the old Palace of Justice, during this course you will work with the themes ‘Justice and Peace’. On the first day, you will visit the location and will immediately start with a joint drawing exercise. Together with Rienke, you will also visit the NDSM Werf in Amsterdam Noord this week to get inspiration from all the street art to be found there. Then you will put your first ideas on paper in Rienke’s self-built studio in the NDSM warehouse. While philosophising and sketching, you will work step by step towards a powerful artistic result which you will finally paint as a group on the wall in Rosewood!
About the teacher
Rienke Enghardt is a visual artist specialising in murals, collective art and community art, and has worked extensively in post-conflict areas, among others. (See link for bio).
In this course, Rienke will guide the group in Socratic dialogue and Surrealist collective drawing, and will provide a large common denominator for the final piece in which all artistic expressions are represented.
About Rosewood Amsterdam
Housed in the former Palace of Justice on the Prinsengracht, Rosewood Amsterdam will open in 2025 as Rosewood Hotel Group’s first property in the Netherlands and will have a special focus on art. One of the goals of Rosewood Impacts is to connect the community in the city with their hotel. With this project, they aim to create opportunities for the future artists of the Netherlands and support their vision and growth at this stage of their lives.
Once the artwork is completed and the hotel is open in early 2025, each wall will display a frame with the student’s names and idea behind the thinking of their creation. Once the hotel is opened, all the artist will be invited for a special tour and dinner at the hotel.
