The programme for summer 2024 will be published online in April 2024.
CREA X Blazinbell presents: Funky Fashion Repair Art.In this course, you will learn the basics of sewing and make a work of art with your sewing machine using recycled fabrics – old clothes that you no longer wear or fabrics that are lying around gathering dust. We paint with needle and thread, make the funkiest stitches, embroider and give your old clothes a new purpose. In this way, a patch is created that you can stitch onto a garment or bag of your choice in the last lesson. Totally hip and sustainable! Be repaired!
What will we be doing?
In eight weeks, we will work towards making a patch from recycled fabrics. This patch can consist of your torn jeans, but also of fabric from that scarf you never wear. Each lesson we build up the patch: we begin with figuring out an image, moving on to tracing, and stitching and finishing with cool embroidery (or whatever you can think of!). Each class you will work individually on this patch, learning to intuitively mix fabrics and colours, sew creatively and embroider in different ways. Your patch will be a truly unique piece of art. These days will also make you look at your old clothes in a different way and use them to upcycle your wardrobe. You will leave the course with a funky patch and so many sustainable ideas for new sewing projects!
What will you need?
This course is entirely sustainable, so we want to use as few new fabrics for your patch as possible. So, dig deep into your closet and stock up on some nice fabrics. You will also need your own sewing machine. Or your grandmother’s or your brother’s. During the course, we will help you start your machine if you have never sewn with it before. That is no problem at all! In this course there is plenty of time to get used to your own machine. Other things you will need are fabric scissors, pins, threads and some needles. And any other haberdashery you can find at home.
