The issues of the day.
Collage and mixed media on paper.
New messages and images come at us every day. Insights can change and shift by the minute. This week, we will attempt to capture this process, which never pauses, in a still image.
Starting point is a large wall in the room at CREA with a giant sheet of paper on it. Its size can grow or shrink as needed. On this paper on the wall a piece of work will be created during the week, which we will develop together! Every day, the delusion of the day is added here, as seen by different people. Images from the news and personal observations are also given a place.
What will we be doing?
In the morning, we will go into the city and collect images. You will photograph moments that seem important to you. You also record your impressions on paper; we make sketches with pencil, crayons and paint. At the same time, you will learn about all kinds of basic drawing and painting techniques: light and shadow, contrasts, mixing colours with paint, perspective and drawing people, movement, sky and more.
Photos and drawings will be taken to CREA after lunch. There, we make our own choices and choose which details we want to work with. We print the result with the copier and stick it on. The news of the day is also allowed to participate. We will draw around and over it.
You discuss each other’s ideas, working together or alone. A picture of the delusion of the day emerges. Seen by different individuals, made with individual observations, but still the work of a group. The next day, we go to a different place and look for new images. The process repeats itself. On the big wall, new pieces are added, pasted over and redrawn. It is a process that will eventually reveal a multitude of information and images; a kind of film of a week in a still image.
